The Russian COVID-19 Reference Center studied tests from Kyrgyzstan

The KR MOH initiated referral of 20 biomaterial samples (nasopharyngeal smear from people) with a positive result, collected from different laboratories of the republic (in May) to the RF State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" under “ Rospotrebnadzor” 20 RF. The samples were referred to investigate the origin of new  SARS CoV-2 infection, circulating on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Through genotyping and cultivation of SARS CoV-2 isolates at the Reference Center, three samples with a high cytopathogenic effect were isolated from all 20 samples.

These 3 samples containing SARS CoV-2 RNA were used to prepare and conduct sequencing followed by phylogenetic test.

The phylogenetic tree obtained on the basis of the nucleotide sequences of isolates of the new coronovirus SARS CoV-2 showed that the isolates belong to different phylogenetic branches, which indicates their imported origin and subsequent evolution in the country. The results of the study showed that the closest nucleotide sequences were found in:

  1. Sweden , Russia
  2. USA, UAE, Sweden
  3. Oman

Currently, the KR MOH plans to refer 100 samples to the WHO Reference Laboratory in Germany for further study of the complete genome during the period of complication of the epidemiological situation in July-August of this year.

These joint studies of the complete genome of the new coronavirus infection SARS CoV-2 are carried by the KR MOH for comparison with the data obtained during the period of restrictions (May 2020) and during the period of complication of the epidemiological situation (July-August 2020).
