Two state laboratories are conducting PCR tests on a fee basis for people departing from KR

Two state laboratories accredited and recognized by the WHO have been identified in the Kyrgyz Republic to conduct testing using the PCR method for mutual recognition of testing results for SARS Cov-2/COVID-19 coronavirus infection by the authorized bodies of foreign states:

  1. National virological reference laboratory of the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance (Frunze Str., 535);
  2. Subnational virological laboratory of CDPSSES of Osh city (Baitemirova Str., 53).

Citizens departing from the KR via “Manas” airport (northern regions) are serviced by the National virological laboratory of DDPSSES, while citizens departing from Osh city’s airport (southern regions) are serviced by the subnational virological laboratory of CDPSSES of Osh city.

The price list was approved by the Ministry of Health of the KR and finalized with the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The cost of one PCR test is KGS 1574. Results are issued in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English languages within 6-8 hours after the biomaterial has been delivered to the laboratory. Test results are protected by a QR code. It should be noted that priority in state laboratories is given to testing samples of sick patients from all healthcare organizations, contact persons, and all suspected COVID-19 cases on a free basis; it is only after all these categories have been serviced that tests for departing citizens are done on a fee basis.

Taking into account the fact that the resources of state laboratories may not suffice for servicing all people wishing to go abroad, the Ministry of Health of the KR has made an announcement to private laboratories that want to conduct laboratory testing for COVID-19, underlining the necessity to receive accreditation for conducting biosafety level 3-4 laboratory tests and to set up a coding system for the test certificate.

Accreditation for PCR testing was received by such private labs as “Bonetskiy’s”, “Aqua”, “Hemotest”, and “Intermedical”.

However, testing is currently done only by “Bonetskiy’s” and “Aqua laboratories, since these two laboratories have a coding system (the QR-code requirement) that confirms the validity of a PCR test. The inclusion of a QR code in the certificate is mandatory. Samples are taken twice a day – in the morning and evening. The cost of a PCR test in private laboratories is around KGS 2500. All private laboratories were proposed to create necessary conditions and conduct PCR tests for COVID-19, but only the indicated labs were able to do so.
