Ministry of Health of the KR set to vaccinate new categories of citizens against COVID-19

As at 16 November 2021, 46% of the population have been vaccinated against the coronavirus infection with the first dose and 37% – with the second dose.

According to the epidemiological assessment matrix, as at 08.11.2021 (a week ago) Bishkek city was in the red zone; Chuy, Issyk-Kul, and Talas provinces were in the yellow zone; and Naryn and the entire Southern region of the republic – in the green zone. As at 15.11.2021 Bishkek’s status changed from red to yellow, and the country as a whole is in the green zone: not a single region is in the red zone.

The ongoing vaccination campaign has had a positive impact on improving the epidemiological situation in the country. As reported earlier, an additional coronavirus vaccine – 200,000 doses of the single-component Sputnik Light vaccine – was delivered to the republic on November 12, 2021.

The Ministry of Health of the KR made a decision to vaccinate new categories of citizens – adolescents aged 16-18, pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Starting from November 17, 2021, Kyrgyzstan’s citizens will also be able to receive an additional (third) COVID-19 vaccine dose in all temporary vaccination points of Bishkek city. In the rest of the provinces, vaccination with the additional third dose will become available within one week.

Who can receive an additional (third) dose?

  • People with moderate and severe immunodeficiency;
  • People aged 60 and above who have previously received Sinopharm, Sinovac, and other inactivated vaccines;
  • Medical workers at a very high risk of contracting and transmitting coronavirus infection;
  • People who have recovered from the COVID-19 disease (including previously vaccinated individuals).

An additional dose can be administered to the first three categories of citizens not earlier than 6 months after the first vaccination. For former COVID-19 patients, the interval should be at least one month after recovery.

It is possible to use inactivated vaccines against seasonal flu, viral hepatitis B together with COVID-19 vaccines observing an interval of 7 days.
