Is the virus transmitted through breast milk?

The age of coronavirus distribution has recently changed. Previously, people over 65 were in very high risk group, but now the latest statistics indicates that people of all ages, including children, can be infected. Moreover, infants who have not yet developed their own immunity and no longer supported by their mothers’ immunity are subject to the infection as well.

Is it possible to breast-feed a baby if a pregnant woman is suspected or confirmed coronavirus case?

To date, there is no evidence that the virus is transmitted through breast milk. Therefore, a nursing woman should not interrupt breastfeeding, under the condition of observing the precaution measures:
- wearing mask when feeding the baby or when being close to the baby;
- washing hands thoroughly with soap before and after contacting the baby;
- constantly disinfecting the surfaces.
